Following the trend of several sports leagues and events, the USL Championship announced early this afternoon that it was suspending all league matches immediately in response to COVID-19. Play may resume within the next 30 days.

This sucks, to be frank, but it’s absolutely the right thing to do. Limiting peoples’ potential exposure to COVID-19 is just one of several steps that need to happen to stop the virus, or at least bring it under control. Producing looootts more tests and developing more aggressive protocols for handling those infected would be even better, but a soccer league doesn’t have any control over that.

Obviously, the league suspension means LouCity’s season home opener(s) at Lynn Family Stadium are now off. I’m glad the league made this decision because it’s likely that many wouldn’t have been responsible enough to stay home on their own, which would only have made things worse.

This is a tough time for everyone the world over. Stay safe out there, take “social distancing” to heart, and WASH YOUR HANDS.

VAMOS MORADOS.
