It’s Election Day! Hopefully you can get out there and vote safely today, or you’ve already sent in your mail-in ballot ahead of time.

There’s a cranky guy on Twitter that likes to tell people that support clubs in the American soccer league system that they’re enabling “tacit disenfranchisement.” In other words, if you aren’t all in on his specific vision of promotion and relegation in soccer, you’re the soccer devil. Pro/rel is good and most people support it, but to say that participation in the existing system is equal to restricting the right to vote is at once the height of hyperbole and utterly ridiculous.

Louisville City gets state approval for fans at matches!

LouCity announced yesterday that the governor’s office had approved their plan to have 50% capacity at Lynn Family Stadium when the USL season starts on July 11. That’s amazing news! The approved plan includes temperature screenings, mandatory face coverings and proper physical distancing.

More details about the precautions the club and its vendors will use for game days can be found in the press release. While 50% capacity at a sporting event during this pandemic sounds risky, the club has taken a lot of precautions to address safety and wellness concerns, including working hand in glove with its stadium operator, ASM Global, which has a series of detailed protocols for handling this exact situation. More can be found in the club’s press release linked above.

USL says clubs can resume full training June 24

The USL’s contact training moratorium will be lifted on June 24 in anticipation of the league’s July 11 re-start. It’s not a free-for-all return to normalcy, though, as clubs must have approval from local and state health authorities and USL HQ.

While it’s great, in theory, that USL is revving back up to play the rest of the season, there’s still a lot of balls still in the air. Lots of states haven’t reduced social distancing restrictions that would allow for games, though many have. Players still have the choice to elect whether they think it’s safe enough to play games. And, probably most importantly, there’s still no schedule. More to come, I’m sure.
