It’s Thanksgiving Week! Normally, I’d be super excited about making a turkey, spending a day with family, deciding which awful NFL game to put on TV, and generally enjoying myself. However, it’s 2020, so instead I’m trying to navigate seeing as few people as possible and evading that ‘rona as best I can. This year sucks. Let’s get to some news, shall we?

Lancaster Re-Signs

Louisville City announced last week that the club has signed a new, multi-year contract with their all-time leading goalscorer. Color me pleasantly surprised! It’s truly unfortunate for Cameron Lancaster that there isn’t/wasn’t more genuine interest in MLS for his services, as I think he’s got the talent to make it in that league. However, their loss is certainly our gain, and for years to come!

Cam’s long-term return settles a lot of open questions about what City was going to do about the striker spot going forward. It’s also a nice bit of business to get this deal done early so that efforts can be focused elsewhere before February comes around. I couldn’t be more delighted that the best forward in the league will be in Louisville for a few more years.

All Quiet on the Trade Front

After a helter-skelter Expansion Draft, one might have expected a lot more news on the roster front for Racing Louisville. However, mum’s been the word since Brad Estes announced that Racing was taking Tobin Heath and Christen Press as the club’s final two picks about ten days ago. The NWSL trade window opened the following morning, and many expected a lot of business. It hasn’t exactly been forthcoming!

What is sort of news is that the NWSL is planning on an April start to their 2021 season, beginning with a pre-season edition of this past year’s Challenge Cup. The 24- game regular season is slated to start in mid-May, and the top six teams at the end make the playoffs. The Championship game is calendared for November 20, 2021, so circle that date!

Otherwise, not much is happening other than people on Reddit getting mad at Racing for using Press and Heath to sell tickets.

NEW CREST DISCUSSION

There’s a new crest! Now you know.

Miscellany

Louisville City’s bringing back fourteen players from the 2020 roster. I expect that number will increase to fifteen this week, as Niall McCabe is almost a shoo-in to sign a new deal very soon. We probably won’t hear from Speedy for another month or so. We know less about the other 2020 players and whether they’ll return. However, John Hackworth seems to like to get his business done early. City is in pretty good shape at forward and fullback, but definitely need some depth at goalkeeper, midfield, and central defense.
