Louisville City just announced that former UofL, LA Galaxy, FC Cincinnati and Indy XI midfielder Kenney Walker has joined the club for an end-of-season loan. All two games of it, plus the playoffs!

Walker, 31, has a few miles on him but really is a very solid midfielder who struggled to find the field much for Indy so far this season. That may be a function of the system that Martin Rennie has laid out for his team or any other number of reasons, but XI’s loss is definitely LouCity’s gain.

The former Cardinal isn’t necessarily likely to be taking many minutes away from the set-in-stone Speedy-Bone-Paolo midfield that has anchored LouCity’s recent unbeaten run, but he’s probably the first true No. 6 that has been on the roster since John Hackworth joined the team as manager in 2018. Long term, having depth at that particular position is invaluable in case of injury or really helping to elevate other players’ games. Speedy has mostly been playing that role all season, and doing it very well. Adding some depth behind him will only be helpful.

Let’s welcome Kenney back to Louisville!
